And we shall have snow
And what will the robin do then, poor thing?
I was thinking of this rhyme as I drove home from Dover yesterday having spent some time in France. Snow was spattering onto my windscreen. There was a thin layer of snow just once when we lived on the Côte d’Azur. It was so unusual that people were rushing out with their cameras.
I love driving. When we reached the M4 I had to slow down as there are speed cameras on every high bridge. Apparently they are raising huge sums of money from fines! Life is like that isn’t it? There are times when you just have to slow down. My daughter said, "You should have been keeping to the speed limit anyway.” So I will try to take her advice!
A Ferrari passed me and I thought, I would like one of those! Then I thought about a few other things I’ve wanted. Isn’t the mind a funny thing? Well, mine is for sure. I had a doll’s house that was open fronted and made for me by my father. It had a staircase and plenty of rooms, but I wanted windows and a front door. If I’d told my Dad, I’m sure he could have added a front to the house, but I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Similarly, he made me a rocking horse, but it was a ‘slice’ of a horse. I wanted a rounded one! Most of all, I wanted a sibling. Every Christmas, the only thing I asked for was a brother or sister. I wondered why at every party the other guests laughed. I didn’t realise it was my father inside the Father Christmas outfit!
Actually, apart from losing my husband, I’ve always been very lucky! I was a Redmaid, married a handsome young man and have two lovely children and five fabulous grandchildren. Another bonus is St John the Baptist Church plus a caring extended family and many great friends. Who cares about fast cars when I have so many blessings in my life!
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention twenty one wonderful years in France and I still visit there frequently!
I hope that everyone reading this is equally lucky. Enjoy March!
