Pre-school Rhyme time@ Downend Library


A FREE fun session of action rhymes and songs for toddlers and pre-school children aged 18 months - 4 years old

*LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE* 9.30—10.00 a.m. on Wednesdays

Tracing your family history?

We have FREE access to Ancestry on our library computers. No need to book. Available both during staffed hours (Mon/Wed/Fri, also Saturday mornings) and in Open Access times (8am - 7.30pm seven days a week).

December 2022

The 2021 Winter Mini Challenge, run by The Reading Agency in partnership with WWF, is still on! It runs (from 1st December) until 16 January 2022. There are also games, rewards and book recommendations to explore at at www.wintermini.org.uk

The Summer Reading Challenge 2021 saw 3436 children in South Gloucestershire reading and exploring nature and action for the environment as part of this year’s Wild World Heroes theme. Now that its chilly and winter, children can join the Wild World Heroes as they embark on an Arctic adventure. They can find out about the creatures that live there and the environmental issues facing this precious, remote place. They might even spot a narwhal or two! #WildWorldHeroes!

If you have a baby aged 0 - 12 months don’t forget to pick up a FREE Bookstart Baby Bag by visiting Downend library. Why not also bring them along to Rhyme Times on Wednesdays at 9.30am? It is never too early to start developing an interest in books & rhymes (please pre-book by asking staff or email downend.library@southglos.gov.uk.).

Our weekly Rhyme Times take place every Wednesday at 9.30am. These are free sessions. They are aimed at parents with toddlers/babies up to 2 years old although older pre-school children are also welcome. At the time of going to press we are still booking limited numbers: please email downend.library@southglos.gov.uk

​Mental Health Books All South Gloucestershire libraries have copies of the books recommended by medical professionals on a range of mental health subjects including depression, anxiety, phobias, dementia and also other long term conditions.

Pack your bags and head to the library to join Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge 2021!

To get involved, children read 6 books over the summer holiday and collect stickers to complete their special Wild World Heroes poster to get a medal and certificate. It's FUN and FREE to take part.

Join the Wild World Heroes for the Summer Reading Challenge at Downend library any time from Saturday 10 July to Saturday 11
September, and discover how you can make a difference to the environment too. Our staffed hours are - Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10am - 5.30pm and Saturdays 9.30am - 1pm.

Also NEW this year, there is also the Mini Challenge specially designed for preschool children.
