This month could be the last chance before the New Year to get any real digging done and maybe mulch with rotted farmyard manure. With autumn well underway it will be necessary to finish clearing up the leaves and generally tidying up. The lawn should have had its last cut , so maybe time to have the mower serviced before next season.
My son has painted the inside and outside of the greenhouse, so I can start to put away tender plants for the winter. I have reduced down the number of pots that have tender plants in them, so maybe this year I shall protect them with fleece rather than heat the greenhouse.
If only we knew what kind of winter we are going to have, as I can still admire geraniums that have flowered continuously for over 18 months and are still going strong.
Bulb planting for Spring should now be completed and time to think about seeds for next year.
Tip for the month: Time to look at gardening catalogues.
