After a very slow start the tomatoes are now making good growth and require a weekly feed of potash to improve the flavour and soften the skins.
Runner beans will have flowered and hopefully I will have many feeds. Also who knows at this stage what other goodies will be there for the picking. In other words August is the month for harvesting!
For those of my readers with allotments or large vegetable gardens it could be the time to tidy up the storage areas ready for any surpluses to be stored for the winter.
I recently read that August is not the month for gardeners to go on holiday, or suffer the consequences when you return! I do not believe everything that I read!
Other things that I shall be doing in general are weeding, dead heading and taking cuttings where necessary. The lawn might be looking a little tired so towards the end of the month it might be time for an Autumn feed.
Tip for the month: Time to buy your Spring Bulbs.
