So the first activity that comes to mind is working on the lawn. I shall start with the blades set high and gradually reduce the height to what I like for the summer. If we have a dry spell I will put the scarifier attachment onto the lawn mower and get rid of the “thatch”. Then treat the lawn with a “weed and feed”.
Having started off some lettuce and tomato it will be time to sow for succession and also sow some of the larger vegetable seeds. Weeds can be a problem this month so it is time to apply some weed killer. Also will need to keep an eye out for slug and snail damage and treat accordingly.
Towards the end of the month I would expect the leaves of the daffodils to have died off and will, therefore, cut them off and feed the bulbs to have flowers next year.
As I write I have pelargonium plugs growing very well on the window sill and should be ready for planting out this month. My winter pansies have not been very good this year and need getting rid of.
One final job this month will be to bring out the garden furniture ready for those lovely sunny days to sit out and relax in the garden. I can dream!
Tip for the month—be watchful for pests.
